Residents who reside within the limits of North Grenville on a permanent basis may obtain a FREE Library Membership Card by filling out a short application at any branch of the North Grenville Public Library. Is there a charge for a library card?
There is no charge for library cards to residents of North Grenville. Non-residents, however, must pay an annual fee of $25-40.00 CDN. Replacement cards, for all members, are $3.00 each.
Can I return my books to any branch?
Although it is preferred that you return your books to their original branch, you may return them to any of the North Grenville Public Library's four branches.
What does the library charge for late returns?
Materials that are returned past the due date are subject to overdue charges/fines. Charges are accrued only on "open" business days.

Is there a grace period for late returns?
There is a grace period of one day on late items. Or, in other words, your late fines will begin accruing two days past their due date. Charges are accrued only on "open" business days.
Is there a ceiling on accumulated fines?
There is a maximum of $5.00 per item (this does not include inter-library loans) on a maximum of 25 items per card. The ceiling, then, at its extreme would be $125.00.
Patrons will be notified by phone of overdue items. If after several attempts the items are not returned a notice will be sent by mail. If items are still not returned the patron will receive an invoice for the replacement of the item(s). Patrons with more than 5 overdue items or $20.00 in outstanding overdue fines will lose their circulation privileges.
When do I need to pay my late fines?
You should pay your late fines when you return the late items. If you are unable to pay at that time, you will need to pay your fines the next time you use your library card.
What is "Amnesty Week?"
Amnesty Week is held during Ontario Public Library Week in the third week of October of every year. If you come into the library during Amnesty Week, all of your late fines will be waived! But, remember, you MUST come into one of the four library branches in order to have your fines waived.

Can I donate books to the library?
The North Grenville Public Library does accept book donations from the public. Books must be in good condition, paperback and hardcover. We do not accept manuals, text books, computer texts or damaged/moldy materials. The Library reserves the right to add donated books to our collection or to sell them in our ongoing books sales. The Library also reserves the right to discard book donations.
Books should be dropped off at the South Gower Branch of the library. If you have a large donation (over 30 books), please call the administration offices at 258-4711 before you bring in your books.

Can I search for books online?
Yes, you can now search the Library's database online using our online catalogue.
Can I sign out books online?
No, you cannot sign out books online. You must visit one of our four branches to sign out any of the materials in our collection. However, you are able to place holds online to pick up at a branch at your convenience. For more information on placing holds online, visit your library account.

Can I place a hold on a library item signed out by another patron?
Yes, you can place holds on items currently loaned out to another patron. Place the hold online or ask a Librarian to do it for you.
Can I sign out books that are not in the library's collection?
For items not located within the North Grenville system (which includes all four branches), our Interlibrary Loan librarian will try to obtain the material from another library. This process can take from 2-6 weeks (on average) and is provided at no cost to the patron. In some cases a small fee may be involved (the patron will be notified prior to receiving the material). There is a limit of three requests at one time. Patrons will be notified by phone when the material arrives; items will be held for one week. Loan periods will vary depending on the source library.

Yes, you can renew your items by phoning any one of our four branches.
Can I renew the items online?
Yes, you can now renew your items online. Please visit your library account to renew your items.
Can I renew overdue items?
Yes, you can renew overdue items. However, you will still be responsible for late charges that have accrued from the due date through to the date of renewal. Upon renewal, you will not accrue any additional late fines.
How can I volunteer at the library?
The library does not currently have any available volunteer or employment opportunites. If you would like to volunteer for the Library, we would welcome your contributions through the Friends of the Library.
