CheCK iT ouT!

The library provides lots of services for teens. Find out what you can do at your local library!
YOUR LIBRARY CARD

Residents who reside within the limits of North Grenville on a permanent basis may obtain a FREE Library Membership Card by filling out a short application at any branch of the North Grenville Public Library. Each member of the household is entitled to receive their own card, including teens!

A library membership card is valid for two years from the date of issue and entitles the cardholder to a full range of services and materials available at the North Grenville Public Library.

Patrons are expected to present their cards at the circulation desk when signing out library materials. A maximum of 25 items may be borrowed on a library card at any given time. Report a lost or stolen library card immediately. Replacement cards are available for a $3.00 replacement charge.

View the Library's Loan Periods, Fines & Fees page to find out all the facts you need to know about your card!

YOUNG ADULT READING

The North Grenville Public Library currently has over 1,300 Young Adult titles in its collection. Browse the teen section at your local library or search the catalogue for the book you're looking for!

Search the Library's Online Catalogue!
INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Can't find the book you're looking for? Our Interlibrary Loan librarian will try to get the book from another library in the province, even the entire country! This service is FREE of charge (occasional exceptions withstanding) for any member of the Library.

It's Simple...
Search the catalogue for the title you want. If you can't find it, phone or come into the library and ask the Librarian to place the book on interlibrary loan for you.

The Fine Print
This process can take from 2-6 weeks (on average). There is a limit of three requests at one time. Patrons will be notified by phone when the material arrives; items will be held for one week. Loan periods will vary depending on the source library.

Overdue fines are $1.00 per day with no grace period and all days counted. If a book is damaged or lost the patron will be charged the rate of replacement as per the lending library's policy. An administrative fee of $10 will be charged. Loss of ILL privileges will be imposed when the fines have reached $10.

Interloan privileges can be limited or suspended by the Manager of Library Services at any time.
ASK A LIBRARIAN

Have a question you need answered? Can't find the information on the Web site? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Still can't find the answer you're looking for? Contact Sue Higgins, Manager of Library Services, at 258-4711 or email ngpl@ripnet.com.
PUBLIC ACCESS COMPUTERS

Internet access is available at all 4 branches of the library; we now have a total of 8 computers for public use. Patrons simply need to complete a waiver form before using the Internet Workstation for the first time. Waiver forms are to be given to the circulation desk when completed.

Children and teens under the age of 16 need a parent or caregiver to sign the waiver.

Installed computer programs vary depending on computer and/or branch. Print charges are $0.25 per black and white page, $1.00 for colour. Patrons wishing to download information must purchase a disk from the library for $1.00.

The Kemptville Branch also offers free scanning services. See in branch for details.
TEEN ADVISORY GROUP (TAG)

Would you like to join a cool group for teens at the library? The Library is thinking about starting a Teen Advisory Group and you could be a part of it. Help with teen-oriented programming, create a teen ezine or TAG website! And so much more...

If you're interested, please submit your name and email to the library staff! If we get enough interested teens, we'll organize the Advisory Group!

RULES OF CONDUCT

The North Grenville Public Library has adopted various rules of conduct when using our facilities. These rules are intended to prevent disruptions to library services, ensure the safety of the public and library staff, and maintain the security of Library property. The rules must be obeyed at all times. They are, in a nutshell:

  • No abusive or threatening language
  • No access to "staff only" areas
  • No animals or pets (seeing-eye dogs permitted)
  • No food or drink
  • No loitering
  • No misuse or damage to library property
  • No photographing, filming or videorecording
  • No smoking
  • No soliciting
  • No sports equipment
  • No unattended children under the age of 10
In addition:

  • The Library cannot be held responsible for personal items lost or stolen on the premises
  • Members of the public are not permitted in the Library with bare feet or torsos
  • Library materials are not permitted in the public washrooms in the Library
Library facilities are available to all members of the public provided they conduct themselves in a reasonable manner. If patrons conduct themselves in an objectionable or noisy manner, staff will, whenever possible, warn the patron that the behaviour is unacceptable. If no proper response is made, the patron will be asked to leave. If the patron will not leave, police will be called. In any extreme or threatening situation, police will be called immediately.

Violation of the Rules of Conduct may result in cost-recovery charges, suspension of Library privileges, exclusion from Library property or prosecution. These rules of conduct were approved by the North Grenville Public Library Board November 14, 2002.
